Ruskeasuo Tram Depot

The Ruskeasuo Depot will be one of the main tram depots in Helsinki, alongside the Koskela Depot. Noste.io has played a diverse role in the implementation project, supporting both owner supervision and assisting in the depot’s commissioning.

If you’re unfamiliar with the site, here’s a quick overview:
🚋 The future main depot for Helsinki’s tram network, serving tram lines in the western parts of the city as well as HSL-area buses.

🚋 The site was previously used as a bus storage yard – the buses have already relocated to the upper deck of the depot, which has space for 220 standard-size buses.

🚋 The depot halls can accommodate 80 trams, each 30–35 meters long. These trams will be relocated to Ruskeasuo from the Koskela Depot.

🚋 Unlike conventional tram depots, traffic will move clockwise at Ruskeasuo. This directional change overcame site constraints and allowed for maintenance and repair operations to be centralized while keeping the storage hall separate.

🚋 The depot has a BREEAM Excellent environmental certification, making it the first depot in Finland to achieve this rating.
